I Am Planning On Moving To Athens, Ga And Currently Looking For Houses.?

In my search, I am finding that newly constructed houses with BASEMENTS are sitting in market for a long time vs houses that are built on Slab. Is Basement not the thing in the southeast? and why are people rejecting houses with basements here in Athens, GA? What are the Pros & Cons with these houses that are on basement vs slab?

1For some reason there aren’t a lot of houses with basements in the south. Just from what I have learned, unless it is a walk out basement, because that just means that it was built on a mountain, or hill side. I live in South Carolina right now, not very far from Athens.
A big con unhouse related right now is GA is almost out of water. In fact they have been asked to drain water from the aquarium.
