How about taking a bus? If not, have you thought of going on a local tour there (many hotels can arrange this and/or have brochures with information on tours there).
Best Times to Go: The Monasteries of Meteora may be visited year round but the weather is wet and cool from December to March. Crowds and high season rates are guaranteed from July 1st to October 15th . May and June are the best months for comfortable weather, low season rates and the opportunity to leisurely explore the area.
Getting There: Buses to Kalampaka are available from Ioannina, Trikala, Thessaloniki and Athens. It is also possible to take the train from Thessaloniki or Athens with a switch at Larissa. If you are traveling from Athens, take a morning train so that you can enjoy the spectacular scenery as you pass through the mountains between Livadia and Lamia.
If you go to Kalambaka, you will see the monastery that is featured in the James Bond movie “For Your Eyes Only.”
The fully detailed info by Star will help you greatly. Apart of the ways described, a couple day’s rental of a car will help you to go there, in your own pace, and once there to go from one monastery to the other.
One very important fact is the attire you will be dressed with.
On most monasteries, generally in Greece, trousers for women and vermuda shorts for men are not welcomed and entrance will be denied to people wearing them. Some are very adamant on this.
Should you want to spent the night, the accomodation available in Kalambaka is of high standards upon availability.
