you can make a trial with http://www.freeiva.com http://www.freeiva.com is a professional international customer service Inc. in China, offering all kinds of customer service(personal tour guide, professional interprter, translor and personal assistant).
You can advertise for interpreter on various expat websites, http://www.thatsshanghai.com will give you links to Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou.
If Shanghai, I know some excellent college students who would be happy to do interpreter jobs, as well as tour guide work.
For your tour guide depends on how you like to travel. If you like tour groups, fancy hotels, fixed itineraries, and mediocre tourist traps then you can find plenty of China tour services on the internet, or ask your interpreter for help. If you prefer backpacking type of independent travel, adventure, and flexible schedules, you’d be better off with a guidebook or hook up with some foreign travelers in a hostel. Chinese people are not very good independent travelers and will go just about anywhere if they are tricked into thinking it is “famous”
